Hayle Town Council (HTC) are delighted to be forging links with Hayle Academy and had the first meeting with members of the School
iCommunicate Council on Thursday 13th June.
Mayor Clive Polkinghorne and Town Councillor Sophie Johnson attended a School Council meeting where we discussed ideas for building pride in Hayle, in terms of promoting the town’s rich industrial history and keeping the town looking great for residents and visitors alike.
The meeting was represented by students from Years 7 to 10.
The plan is for the representatives of Hayle Town Council (HTC) to meet again soon with members of the School Council, who will be consulting pupils across Hayle Academy for further ideas for promoting pride in Hayle.
We look forward to working together to ensure that HTC are listening to what our young members of the community are thinking and feeling, particularly
about what there is to see and do in Hayle, and how facilities can be protected and/or improved.

On Friday 28th June, our students did us proud at the Year 11 Prom night.
It was an evening of real celebration as they depart onto new adventures. There were some amazing outfits on display.
Many had put a lot of thought into what they were going to wear, which included white socks for some lads and very uncomfortable-looking shoes for the girls!
There were also some very classy arrivals. The evening was a great success and very enjoyable.
Thank you to all who helped to co-ordinate the evening, and to all staff who attended and supported the event. Thanks also to the Prom Pixies for their support with dresses. The students will leave with lovely memories of their prom.
Now that the sunny weather is upon us, we will keep our fingers crossed for it to continue particularly with our Skills Week fast approaching.
Once again this year, we have a great variety of activities available for students to experience to develop their wider skills. There are new events this year and returning popular activities from previous years; there really are opportunities for all. During the same week, our Year 10 students undertake their work experience placements. Best of luck to all of you.
The whole of Year 7 and Year 8 students enjoyed a day’s fieldwork in support of their geography and history curriculum.
At the start of the week, Year 7 visited Falmouth. In the morning, they assessed how 500 years of history had shaped Pendennis castle.
They explored the castle grounds inside and out to see how events from the Spanish Armada to the Second World War have influenced the site.
The weather remained kind as we all enjoyed a picnic lunch on the picturesque castle green.
In the afternoon, we headed to Gyllyngvase beach to examine the coastal geography of this stretch of coastline and to explain the processes that shape it.
Later in the week, Year 8 ventured west to tour Levant Mine, the site of one of the worst mining disasters in Britain’s history. The site was crucial to this country’s industrial revolution
advances and includes a working original beam engine from 1840, which some volunteers at the mine had in operation.
After investigating the underground section where the mine shaft descends over 600m, the group headed off to Marazion. At the beach, students collected primary data to assess the extent of marine plastic pollution in Mount’s Bay as well as evaluating the success of the coastal management strategies in the area.
Over both days, the students from Hayle Academy were a credit to the school. The weather made the trip much more pleasant, but our students made it a success. Thanks to all the staff who were involved
On Tuesday 10th July, was the annual Hayle Academy sports day. The weather was perfect, and everyone who could be, was outside to support their team colour.
This was a whole school sports day and a record number of students participated in a wide range of events.
Congratulations to Year 11 on the completion of their GCSE exams. They should all be commended for their resilience and commitment throughout the exam season and for the additional studying they undertook to ensure that they achieved their full potential.
