Study skills and revision aids are a vital part of the preparation for the summer public exams. This support will help our students perform at their very best when it really matters.

We wish to invite you to attend an important Year 11 Supporting Success evening for students and their parents/carers, taking place on Thursday, 3rd October from 6pm until 7.30 pm.  At a critical time, this will be an invaluable opportunity for you to informally discuss your child’s progress and consider ways you can help your child to revise for their GCSE exams, with a particular focus on maths, English, science, and humanities. The evening will include subject-based workshops led by our Heads of Faculty.

In addition, we appreciate that during the exam periods, some Year 11s find revision emotionally and practically challenging. With this in mind, we are fortunate to have been able to engage a speaker, Dr Martijn van der Spoel, to talk to parents about supporting effective learning on the same evening. Dr. van der Spoel is a chartered psychologist, who specialises in using the mind as an effective tool for life learning. He will work with students throughout the day about how they can learn to balance focus, motivation and study behaviour and then in the evening he will talk about ways in which parents can guide and support this through creative and constructive guidance. The presentation has a significant, but accessible, emphasis on the psychology behind the strategies of learning. Both students and parents should leave the sessions not only with the “how” but also with the “why” of effective learning.

At the evening you will be provided with:

  • Practical advice and guidance on how to support your child as the GCSE exams fast approach.
  • A personalised revision pack of materials, resources and homework revision tasks to take away to support revision at home.
  • Information on how to use our revision apps.
  • An overview of what after-school support sessions are available per subject.
  • Opportunities for you to ask questions and to look at the expectations of the exams by reviewing past papers.

You have the opportunity to book onto the revision workshops applicable to your son/daughter via our online booking system. Each workshop will last for approximately twenty minutes and will be delivered a number of times throughout the evening.
