On behalf of all the staff at Hayle Academy, a very warm welcome to the Hayle Academy transition page. Whether you are reading this as a prospective student, parent, carer, grandparent or any other member of the wider school community I very much hope you will find the information contained on these pages useful. Having joined Hayle Academy as Head this September, I am delighted to share information on our school with you. This is an exciting time to be a part of Hayle Academy. We are a forward-thinking academy and place our students’ needs at the heart of everything we do. During the summer term I listened with a real sense of pride to teachers’ reports on the fantastic efforts Hayle students have made to ensure that their learning was able to continue during the recent school closures. This resilience and determination to succeed are real hallmarks of success and I have no doubt this will continue and grow as we work together during the new academic year.
This September we have been delighted to be able to welcome our students back into the building and to start working with them to quickly get back on track with their educational journey. It has been a real pleasure to see the buzz and sense of excitement among students at being able to come together as a group, reconnect with friends and with teachers, and to begin to regain a sense of normality. I have been so very impressed by the mature and respectful approach they have demonstrated.
As Head, I am unashamedly very traditional in my approach to expectations: all students should be polite and respectful to staff, visitors to the school and to each other. They should have good manners and talk kindly to one another, engage in their lessons to the best of their abilities and to fully embrace the challenges given to them by their teachers. They should wear their uniform in full and with pride, and at all times act as great ambassadors for Hayle Academy. All staff uphold these expectations and support our students in meeting them, and all staff respond in kind when talking to students. We very much expect all our school community to contribute to a calm, positive and productive school culture.
Hayle Academy is a warm and welcoming place to be. Staff know the students well and demonstrate real care and kindness in all of their work. We believe that time in school should be positive and happy: time to develop and grow both academically and as a person; time to broaden our horizons and to try new things. We strongly believe that students who love their time at school will be most likely to thrive. During their time at school students should make lifelong friendships and memories that they will recall for the rest of their lives. Some of the greatest and most memorable of times at school occur outside of the classroom: clubs and activities; representation in our elite sports teams; music performances, drama productions and celebration evenings. With our focus on positivity, celebration and excellence, all students will find opportunities to succeed.
I very much hope you will find the information on these pages to be of interest. Although we are unable to run a traditional open evening this year, there is no better way of gauging the true feel of a school than to see it in action: to this end, prospective students and their families are warmly invited to book a tour using the enquiry form below, or by contacting our reception on 01736 753009. We would be delighted to welcome you to our school.
With warm regards
Simon Horner
