Hayle Academy recognises that the move from primary to secondary school is a significant event for both pupils and parents alike. We know that each child will be both nervous and excited about joining a secondary school. We know that what they need to know is different for each of them. Some need help with information about the new school, about their friendship groups or their Form Tutors. Others are worried about getting lost and what their new teachers may be like.

At Hayle we have a special transition programme to help at this time of change. We are proud of the programme and the way it helps new students settle quickly and successfully into our academy. We work closely with our primary partners and have developed an exciting 18 month programme that starts in Year 5 and aims to encourage new friendships, build confidence and familiarity with the new school and ensure that learning continues between Year 6 and 7.

We believe our transition programme will help to answer many of the worries children and parents may have. Please look at the detailed programme and better still come and visit us on a normal working day.

Hayle Academy takes its responsibilities for enabling young people to move onto the next phase of their life very seriously. Our special programme, Post 16 – Moving On, helps students move on from our academy into tertiary education, employment or training. It includes visits from external professionals, potential employers, visits to colleges, interview and application form training, work experience and career advice from an independent Personnel Adviser.

A student in our Year 11 is at a key decision point in their life, we help them to understand and evaluate the breadth of opportunities that are available to them and to access the support that will help them relate these to their own capacities and their own aims for the future. Our aim is to provide young people with impartial advice and guidance on all the opportunities available to them as young people.

We are proud of the fact that our programme is successful and of our very strong commitment to ensuring that all students move on to a positive experience and are not identified as NEET ie not in employment, education or training.

The Local Authority co-ordinates the admissions process for secondary transfer. Parents should visit the Local Authorities website by clicking on the link below.  If you require further information or if you are uncertain about anything please do not hesitate to contact us.

The academy is graded GOOD in all areas:

students feel safe

>> the achievement of students is good
>> the most able students achieve well
>> the behavior of students is good
>> the successful promotion of equal opportunities ensures there is no discrimination

Ofsted Report

Hayle Academy joined Truro and Penwith Academy Trust (TPAT) on 1st November 2017. Academies form an integral part of the Government’s education policy to raise attainment for all children. We are delighted with the benefits academy status will bring Hayle Academy and we now have the opportunity to use the freedoms and flexibilities of academy status to share best practice and work with others to bring about sustained improvements. The Trust currently oversees a mixture of primary and secondary schools across Cornwall.
