The class of 2024 at Hayle Academy
Congratulations to our outstanding Class of 2024 who received their GCSE results this morning at this important milestone in their educational journey. There were plenty of beaming smiles and excited faces as our Year 11 students opened their envelopes alongside their friends, parents, carers and staff, to discover the rewards for their incredible hard work and exceptional dedication. We are immensely proud of all our students who worked so hard to achieve their qualifications and this is testament to their commitment to their learning.
Amongst the many, many success stories, our top performers include Mate, whose results included two GCSEs at Grade 9 and seven at Grade 8; Lowenna whose results included one GCSE at Grade 9 and five at Grade 8; Victoria whose results included three GCSEs at Grade 9 and three at Grade 8; Milana whose results included one GCSE at Grade 9 and four at Grade 8, and Archie, James and Ben whose results included three GCSEs at Grade 8. We congratulate each and every student on their success and achievements.
Most Improved in Cornwall!
These results could mean that Hayle Academy is the most improved school in Cornwall!
Hayle Academy’s performance demonstrates strong improvement with a 10% improvement in the % of students achieving at least a Grade 4 (standard pass) in English and Maths and this is also mirrored in the results for students achieving at least a Grade 5 (strong pass) in English and Maths in comparison to 2023. At the highest grades, there has been an 8% increase for students achieving the top grades, with 7 grade 9s and 33 grade 8s achieved with 9 level 2 Distinction * and 19 Level 2 Distinctions achieved, in what is relatively a small cohort of 80 students. This rapid improvement is testament to the strength of the curriculum, teaching, learning and leadership in the school with many thanks to the dedication of the whole staff team.
There were also success stories for particular subjects, including GCSE English Language, GCSE Geography and GCSE History as almost 70% of students in these subjects achieved at least a Grade 4 (standard pass). In Spanish, 75% of students achieved at least a Grade 4 (standard pass). In the Separate Sciences, 100% of students achieved at least a Grade 4 in Chemistry with over 96% in Physics and over 92% in Biology. Students also made fantastic progress in subjects such as WJEC Hospitality and Catering and for BTEC Tech Award in Performing Arts.
Mrs Melissa Lock
Headteacher
Mrs Lock is absolutely delighted for our students:
“Our staff team are incredibly proud of our student’s accomplishments as they have reached these impressive new heights. Our students showed such maturity and determination in spite of all the challenges they have faced, especially given that they had just started secondary school when the pandemic unexpectedly started.
Their results will provide them with a fantastic platform for success for the future as they start the next exciting chapter in their education. They move on from Hayle Academy with far more than their results though: they have fully embraced all of our Hayle 365 opportunities that have helped them to develop into responsible and kind young citizens ready to face the wider world! From trips and visits, extra-curricular activities and leadership opportunities, to so much more… they have left Hayle Academy with a rich, lasting legacy. Really well done to you all; you will be missed!”
