Physical Education is a pivotal subject within any school curriculum and as a school we play a vital role in developing students’ understanding of the importance of health and wellbeing and how each of these components can affect their day to day living.  Physical literacy involves holistic lifelong learning through movement and physical activity. It delivers physical, psychological, social and cognitive benefits as well as the importance of health and wellbeing.

At Hayle Academy we provide a Physical Education curriculum that caters for all the needs of our students; ensuring that opportunities are made available to encourage students to develop a love of physical activity which they can enjoy and so encourage lifelong participation. Further to this, we build on life skills such as determination, resilience and a strong work ethic alongside the key sport specific skills and relevant sporting knowledge.

Extra-curricular activities play a particularly vital role in supporting what we deliver as part of the Physical Education curriculum. During this time we develop students’ ability to apply sports knowledge in a competitive environment and the desire to succeed. This gives us the opportunity to stretch and challenge our higher ability students, alongside offering a competitive opportunity to represent the school for all abilities.  This enables our students to challenge themselves and compete against other schools.  Further to this, a wider benefit of Physical Education is having a sense of belonging through teamwork, challenge and sportsmanship whilst having fun. Teams compete in regularly arranged fixtures in a range of sports including netball, rugby, football, cricket, athletics, rounders and Projectability within our Penwith Partnership along with different county wide competitions and tournaments throughout the year.
