Hayle Academy House System
Our House System fosters teamwork, participation and good behaviour in all areas of school life. We create sense of community within each of the houses that helps to create a feeling of identity and belonging. Our four houses reinforces the ethos and spirit of the school;
“A place of learning excellence for everyone”.
The four houses are named after four local coastal sites – Bluff, Godrevy, Gwithian and Mexico. House points are awarded to students for a multitude of positive actions from within the classroom to representing Hayle Academy in sports fixtures or academic challenges. Each year the prestigious House Cup is awarded to the house that has accumulated the most house points per student over the whole academic year.
School House Council
Our School House Council embodies student participation in order to support whole school development. The council provides leadership opportunities and there are no barriers to participation. Councillors have opportunities to run assemblies, house events and take part in council meetings. Our students our empowered to have their voices heard and are central to the leadership and development of our school community.
The four pillars of kindness, respect, positivity and resilience are at the heart of everything we do at Hayle Academy. House points are typically awarded in line with these key principals and our students are encouraged to demonstrate these commendable attributes throughout their life at Hayle Academy.
Secondary school is about far more than just exams and we celebrate our wonderful young people when they so frequently display these fabulous characteristics.
Inter-House Competitions
Each year we host a wide range of competitions that every student can get involved in. There are a wide range of sporting activities including tag rugby, netball and athletics throughout the year. In the summer term our multi-sports day is the culmination of this when the Inter-House sports cup is awarded to the victorious house. Sport is by no means the only way in which our students compete however. Spelling Bees, Christmas card design, art, the incredible talent show, short story competition and photography are just some of the opportunities that we host throughout the school year. In addition, each broad horizon lunch time the house team host small drop-in competitions where students can earn bonus house points to compete in mini activities that change each week.
House Heroes
Each calendar month tutors nominate one student from their group who has gone above and beyond. Students who have demonstrated one or more of the four pillars around the school, or in our local community, are then put forward to be selected as their House Hero for the month. Winners (who are selected by house leaders) are then celebrated with a certificate (and house points) sharing their positive contribution to our school and wider community.
