Duke of Edinburgh

Duke of Edinburgh Award at Hayle Academy

At Hayle Academy, we are proud to offer students the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award, with both Bronze and Silver levels available. Led by Mr Matt Leech, the programme is a popular and inclusive part of our enrichment offer, with high levels of student participation across year groups.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a nationally recognised scheme that encourages young people to develop independence, resilience, teamwork, and leadership through a combination of volunteering, physical activity, skills development, and expedition experiences.

Why Take Part?

  • Build confidence, independence, resilience and self-belief
  • Learn new skills and discover new interests
  • Make a positive impact in the community
  • Work as part of a team and develop leadership
  • Gain a respected qualification valued by colleges, universities, and employers

Inclusive and Accessible

We are proud that the Duke of Edinburgh programme at Hayle Academy is inclusive and accessible to all students. Those who access their learning through the Additional Resource Base (ARB) and students involved in ASDAN programmes also enjoy and thrive through their involvement in DofE, taking part in activities tailored to their strengths and interests.

Bronze vs Silver: What’s the Difference?

Section Bronze Award Silver Award
Volunteering 3 months 6 months
Physical 3 months (plus 3 extra in one section) 3 months (plus 3 extra in one section)
Skills 3 months (plus 3 extra in one section) 3 months (plus 3 extra in one section)
Expedition 2 days / 1 night 3 days / 2 nights
